Lately I’ve been shooting a lot of video with my 7D, so this trackday with Driving-Fun.com at Circuit Park Zandvoort proved to be a great opportunity to try some stuff. As a matter of fact, I didn’t take any pictures and only shot video. It was my first trackday with Driving-Fun and my first visit ever to Zandvoort.
Here’s the result:
Everything was shot on my 7D with 17-40L, 70-210 f/3.5-4.5 and 85 f/1.8 lenses, on 1080p25. The files were converted to ProRes using MPEG Streamclip and then edited in Final Cut Pro and color graded with Magic Bullet Looks. I used my video rig with it’s latest additions, a D|Focus follow focus and a Lilliput 7″ monitor:

The sunshade for the screen was made by my g/f from a small IKEA container, and proved to be of great help when using the monitor outside.
Didn’t get that much usage out of the follow focus, as most on track action was shot at small apertures. In hindsight I would’ve liked to include more people shots from the pit boxes, but oh well, that’s just one of the things I’ll try to do differently next time.
The ‘moving’ shots were made with a small skater that I created out of some wood and skateboard wheels I had laying around. Way to bouncy, but it’ll have to do until I save up for a Glidetrack.
